The very word conjures up dollar signs and high priced items. However, cosmetics need not be expensive and you don't have to spend a fortune if you know where to shop! There are a number of places where you can find quality cheap cosmetics and makeup for a dollar or less on the web or in your local discount or dollar store.

Even if you wear no other makeup at all, basic sun screen or face cream and an inexpensive lipstick combined with lip liner will transform your appearance from bland to 'alive'. Drugstores and budget cosmetics outlets are a good source for a variety of beauty products including lipstick and other cheap makeup for as little as a dollar.

For that pampered feel, try some scented powder or body lotion after your bath. You can find lotions and creams for problem areas or rough spots such as heels and elbows.

Use perfume, sparingly or daringly, there are hundreds of scents to choose from and most cosmetic counters will let you try a sample.

Nothing adds more drama to your appearance than long lush eyelashes. Makeup can highlight your natural lashes by using mascara and provide color in the form of eye shadow to accent or blend with your eye color and skin. You can even buy artificial eyelashes in most cosmetics departments for a dollar or less in your choice of colors.

A variety of creams and lotions are available at any cosmetics counter - even in your supermarket or drugstore - that are designed to help ward off or hide blemishes and wrinkles.

A good foundation in powder or cream form will cover or hide blotchy areas or unsightly freckles to give your face an overall smooth complexion. Use a little blusher to highlight cheeks and forehead for that fresh look.

Use cream or lotion after each time you wash your hands. Don't forget sun screen when you plan on being outdoors for any length of time.

You may not think this is important, but drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water daily will help you attain healthy, smooth skin and it costs nothing.
